 "I
recently purchased 3 “Be Alert for Children at play ” signs
after my three year old son almost was hit by a car on Christmas
morning – while riding his new Christmas toy. Every
house on our street has angled driveways – which is
not conducive for children playing with balls, riding bikes,
scooters etc. Almost always, something is rolling into the
street and children are running after it!
My
3-year old son was almost was hit by a car on Christmas
morning even when I was in the front yard watching all the
neighbor children play – but it only takes a split
second for something to happen. It was the most terrible
feeling I’ve ever felt – I was praying “please
see him, please see him” as I was running – and
knowing that I was not going to get there in time. Fortunately,
this driver was aware of all the children playing and stopped
in time.
This
is, however, not always the case. Although I live in a great
neighborhood, we have a problem with cars not watching out
for children and speeders – both teenagers and adults.
As
a result, I did not allow my children to play in the front
yard until I could find a way to slow cars down. I approached
our neighborhood association for speed bumps but told that
the streets were owned by the City and they were not inclined
to install speed bumps. Luckily, I found these signs –
and they have been great.
We
have a total of 10 kids (in 4 houses) on our street, all
in houses across the street from each other – so there
is always someone crossing the street on bikes, running
after basketballs etc. I purchased 3 signs and placed them
in the middle of the street – I only do this when the
kids are playing outside and I take them down when no one
is playing.
The
feedback has been INCREDIBLE. My neighbors have individually
come to me and thanked me – they feel safer about their
children playing with the signs. When my 3-year old son
wants to play in the front, he comes to me and says “put
out the Children at Play sign, I want to play outside.”
I
cannot thank you enough for making these signs – the
traffic has slowed down and I believe that my children are
safer because of it.
It’s
my responsibility to keep my children safe and I believe
these Children at play signs accomplish that!"
